Who We Are
Mark Bromley received his Master of Architecture degree from the University of Michigan in 1986 and became a registered architect in 1989. Mark began his professional career with Quinn Evans Architects of Ann Arbor, Michigan working on landmark historic restoration projects throughout the United States. Since 1996, Mark has lived in the Lower Cabot Schoolhouse in Lower Cabot, Vermont, which he restored as a residence. He first worked here in Vermont at Birdseye Design where he was a Senior Project Architect from 1998 to 2009. Mark believes strongly in the capacity of good design to inform and improve every project large and small. His focus has always been helping friends design responsible energy efficient houses that feel like home.
Ben Bush is a Richmond, Vermont native. After studying art and theatre design at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA, he moved to New York City and started a career in theatre scenic and lighting design. In New York, Ben worked on shows on and off Broadway, achieving membership in the United Scenic Artists Union as a set designer, as well as teaching design and technical theatre classes as a full time staff/faculty member at Barnard College. Drawn back to Vermont, Ben changed his focus to the practical art of architectural design and building. In the last 15 years Ben has worked in the field as a design-build carpenter, building several houses with LBS construction before joining Birdseye Building Company’s architectural office as a draftsman and designer in 2006. Since leaving Birdseye in 2007, Ben has worked together with architect Mark Bromley, ultimately co-founding Hillview Design Collaborative in 2013. Ben and his wife also started and own On the Rise Bakery, a local wood fired café and venue in Richmond, VT.
John Linn grew up in Vermont. He studied engineering at the University of Vermont and received his degree in Architecture and Building Engineering Technology from Vermont Technical College. After graduation he spent the next few years in the timber frame industry both as a craftsman and designer. Following a two year stint in Alaska he returned to Vermont where he joined Birdseye Building. He spent a short time as a carpenter there before becoming an integral part of the design team. During the next 11+ years he progressed in his professional career serving as draftsman, office manager, project manager and finally, after becoming a licensed architect in February 2012, project architect. He was excited to join Mark, Ben and Lee as a partner in the spring of 2014.
Matt Dyer is our draftsman. Matt graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 2002 and spent the next ten years building houses in Massachusetts and Vermont. In 2011 he returned to college and graduated with a degree in drafting and design from the Community College of Vermont in 2013. He brings extensive building knowledge and in-field experience to an already very experienced design group.
Anna Bromley is our office manager. Anna graduated from St. Lawrence University in 2010. Her knowledge, interest, and experience in sustainable design, marketing, accounting, and general technical skills make her a vital part of our team and a promising architect in training.
